Theme: “Understanding and managing insects for our mutual benefit.”
Welcome/ Invitation
The Organising Committee is delighted to invite you to attend the combined Australian Entomological Society and Entomological Society of New Zealand Conference to be held at Rydges on Swanston Street in Melbourne from Sunday 27th to Wednesday 30th November, 2016.
While you are visiting, we hope that you will have a chance to enjoy some of Melbourne’s well known attractions. Melbourne is renown for its love of the arts, sports and food. Rydges on Swanston is situated on the fringe of the city, opposite leafy Lincoln Square and within walking distance to the famous Lygon Street restaurants and cafes, Melbourne University and close to Queen Victoria Markets and the CBD. Other landmarks in the vicinity include Carlton Gardens, Melbourne Museum and Melbourne Zoo, Melbourne Gaol, National Gallery of Victoria, Victorian Arts Centre, Southbank, Crown Casino, the MCG, Ethiad stadium and more.
Our exciting scientific program will explore themes of insect and human interactions and understanding and managing the environment and landscapes for our future co-existence and mutual benefits. Symposia themes are to be announced but will cover aspects of insects and human health, agriculture, conservation, insect-plant interactions, biosecurity, biodiversity, systematics, evolution and biogeography.
The conference logo is of the clerid beetle, Lemidia frenchi Lea (Cleridae) which was named after the first State Government appointed Entomologist of Victoria, Charles French (1842 – 1933) and the beetle is only known to occur in Victoria.
We look forward to welcoming you in Melbourne in November 2016.
